I remember my folks telling a story once. They were letting the oven cool down after my mom did some baking. She had checked it recently and it was not hot enough to burn you, but was still warm. My brother came in the kitchen and they told him simply (as he was still young) “Hot” – but my brother was defiant and started to reach for the grate sticking out. Again they looked at him waving a finger and said in a deterring tone “Hot!!” but they did not stop him.
Sure enough he just had to reach out and touch the grate and immediately pulled his hand back (not burnt, but surprised) and repeated back to them simply “hot!!”
Some things can’t be told, people either won’t listen, can’t understand or simply don’t care. [There comes a] time for them to risk getting their fingers burnt so they learn that lesson the hard way.
