I took the bus this morning as my truck is getting the fuel pump fixed. I arrived at the stop about 15 minutes before the first bus of the morning. A little while later a man showed up on a bike. He ended up striking up a conversation and told me a few things about himself.
He told me he was really low on cash, no news there, a lot of us are. He told me he was out of a job, again nothing new around here. He eventually told me he was hopping on the early bus because he’s earning his money now-a-days pan handling.
He went on to tell me he earns from $300-700 a week pan handling. It’s of course all cash and non-traceable – i.e. non-taxed. (that equates to about $30000 per year tax free btw) He also showed me that he has a special bus pass for ‘low income’ riders that gives them a big discount on regular fares. He told me quite a few details about how ‘if you know the right places’ you can get food for free, clothes for free, money for rent or places to stay for free, etc.
So I inquired about how much money he was piling up doing all this, at which point he told me none. And then told me he spends on average $600 a week to support his drug habit.
