(in consideration of the items on this list, I seek through my every action and deed to avoid the circumstances surrounding or leading to each as often as possible – with the exception of the last two – and especially to not unduly harm or otherwise burden anyone else with the consequences….)
I pledge to be human
I reserve the right to ever and always make mistakes, and upon doing so to occasionally do so again but to ever strive to learn from them whenever possible.
I fully expect to make a partial or complete ass out of myself, sometimes more often than I might like or care to admit.
I no doubt will occasionally misspeak, misunderstand or otherwise fail to correctly interpret or fully comprehend concepts — for which through whatever mechanism I was unaware of additional perspectives, premises, parameters, contributing factors or resulting conclusions.
In spite of all these things; I will venture to apologize for them as little as possible — unless a direct-intentional or otherwise careless action on my part results in causing another harm unjustly. Instead I will venture to say, “I will do my best to not ever do that again”, seek to abide by that statement, and try to compensate anyone effected for any damages caused in lieu of an apology. (as apologies mostly serve only to assuage one’s own liability and sense of culpability)
I promise never to take myself too seriously nor view my own trials and triumphs as anything more or less spectacular than any that have been experienced by any of the multitudes upon multitudes of people that have come before me or that will be living long after I am gone.*
I desire and intend to laugh at myself much and often whenever any of the above items occur, and especially when they occur with significant enough frequency as to warrant laughing at them and myself even harder.
* (with this said, my personal perspective places my own rational self-interest above anything anyone else has ever done or said as whatever it is ‘I’ am doing is for or related to ‘me’. But that doesn’t make whatever I am doing is any more or less relevant in the grand scheme to anything done by anyone else.
Besides, it is far more reasonable and intelligent to compare my own actions or results to those I have done prior when establishing a gauge for my own progress or level of achievement)
