In light of the hullabaloo over the mosque at ground zero, someone attempted to point out to me an alleged difference between Islam and western (Judea) religions.  Their claim was that Islam promotes ‘Jihad’ against the ‘infadels’.  In other words, the actual nature of the religion encourages the followers to kill the non-followers of Islam.

In that allegation was the implied notion that ‘Judea’ based religions do not do this.  So let’s examine this notion shall we?

 Ya better pray on Sunday!!

Exodus 31:14 You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death.

Kill in the name of God or be cursed!

Jeremiah 48:10 A curse on him who is lax in doing the LORD’s work! A curse on him who keeps his sword from bloodshed!

Abraham and Isaac

Abraham and Isaac

Kill even your family if they do not follow the Lord or be killed!

Exodus 32:26-27 So [Moses] stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites rallied to him. Then he said to them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.’ ”

Worship Yahweh or perish

Numbers 25:1- 4 “the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate and bowed down before these gods. So Israel joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. And the LORD’s anger burned against them. The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD”

Follow your parents beliefs or die

Leviticus 20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death

Stone to death all followers of wicca, psychics, astrologers, etc.

Leviticus 20:27 ‘A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.’

Exodus 22:18 Do not suffer a witch (sorceress) to live.

Stone to death any who speaks ill of Yahweh

Leviticus 24:14-16 Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him. Say to the Israelites: ‘If anyone curses his God, he will be held responsible; anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.

Followers of other prophets (uh, like say, Muslims who follow Mohammud???) must die!

Deuteronomy 13:5 If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you [..],
and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” [..]
It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. [..]
That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the LORD your God [..]
You must certainly put him to death. [..]

Deuteronomy 13:12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known),  then youmust inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town.

(it goes on to speak of raising the entire town, and again in Deuteronomy 13:12-15, the same thing is again re-iterated in Deuteronomy 17:2-7)

Kill even your own brother if he is of another religion

Deuteronomy 13:6-9 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known,  gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other),  do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death.

Only make sacrifice to Yahweh!

Exodus 22:20 Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed.

Holy vanquishing!  It’s not just for Muslims!

(and before you say “but this is all in the old Testament” remember that Jesus affirmed the old testament as the true word of God.  Just one example:

Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

And of course, if you want to throw out the old testament for the sake of the new, along with it goes all the Eden myth, all the arguments against homosexuality, transsexuality, abortion, and those sticky 10 commandments)

On the way back from the store, I managed to catch the last few minutes of a prolonged rant by radio talk host Mark Lavin.   He was all worked up in his typical lather, this time because President Obama decided not to release photos of Osama Bin Laden taken after the recent raid leading to his death.

Among other things, Mr. Lavin alleged that we wouldn’t have hesitated to post such photos in World War II or worry about hurting the feelings of the Japanese or the Germans in that war, saying “I don’t give a damn!” in regards to any offense caused to combatant Muslim fundamentalists who qualify as terrorists.

While I am in agreement about not worrying about offending terrorists, and while not wanting to make anything akin to a ‘moral equivalence‘ argument, I have to disagree with the nature of his comments in regards to the photos.  I will avoid making it a moral equivalence argument by refraining from phrasing it as ‘how can we say…’ type statements but instead focusing on ‘why’ we have made some arguments in the past in support of my view as to why we ‘should not‘ release any photos of Bin Laden’s dead body.

Nick Berg

Almost exactly 7 years ago on May 7th, 2004 we learned of the gruesome death of Nicholas Evan Berg when not only was the news released of his being captured and held by terrorists, but the terrorists themselves released a video of his being beheaded that went viral on the internet.  At the time we were outraged not only by the act itself but by the superfluous act of releasing the footage.

9/11

Then of course there was 9/11, when we saw Palestinians celebrating in the streets of Israel  with reports of celebration in other regions known to be less friendly to the US and western nations.

Al Jazeera

We expressed outrage at news sources like Al Jazeera for continuing to be a mouthpiece for Bin Laden and other pro-terror leaders who were doing little less than gloating following various attacks on pro-western targets.

It’s not Moral Equivalence.

I am not making an argument that ‘we are no better than them’.  We clearly are.  There are ongoing complaints that we often go ‘too far’ in trying to promote the ‘rights’ or at least to take great care in protecting the rights of innocents in our efforts to put an end to terrorism.  (Mark Lavin’s argument is just another example of one of these)  We are better because we do not act without reasonable cause and without seeking input and even assistance from our allies and the international community in general.

And, as I already stated, I am not going to frame this from the perspective of ‘how can we possibly …. in the future if…‘.  Instead, look at why we were outraged by the prior events mentioned.  We do follow reason and there were reasons to be outraged.

Our leaders may use reason and consultation in coming to solutions, but our leaders are practically guaranteed airtime whenever they speak of our achievements to destroy our enemies.  Because our leaders use reason and wisdom, and because our nation bears global influence, there is nothing wrong with that.  And we support freedom of the press.  And our leader has already spoken of the death of this enemy to our freedoms.

Again, Obama was far more justified to go on media sources to break the news.  Our action was a response to specific acts recognized worldwide as unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens.  While an Islamic extremist could probably raise many events relating to specific acts of the west that are worthy of question and even condemnation, they do not seek acceptance or agreement with their ideas in the global community but instead act hastily and recklessly and cheer the deaths of innocents and combatants alike.

We’ve already seen footage that has made the news wires of celebrations in Washington DC and New York city following the announcement by our president.  Many news sources and political figures are quickly trying to point out that the celebrations ‘probably’ reflect a celebration of justice having been done.  And whether or not there are vindictive, vengeful faces in those crowds, I do not think it wholly unreasonable that most in the crowd would concur with that assessment of their motives.

(consequently, there were also large scale celebrations in the Arabic community here in Dearborn, MI – and they are essentially saying the same thing, that they are celebrating justice having been done.  They point out the fact that Bin Laden has killed more Muslims than Americans.  But additionally many of the former middle eastern Muslims here are also saying they are glad to see him gone because of the damage he has done to the reputation of non-extremist followers of Islam)

Finally, do we really want to cross the last border of those things we have previously condemned (with good reason) by making public the pictures of a dead leader of our enemies?  What would it achieve?  Lavin eluded to things such as ‘showing our resolve’ or making it clear to our enemies ‘what we are capable of’.  But was not tracking down and killing him sufficient to do that?  What necessity is there to release the photos that would not qualify as braggadocio or overkill?

Justice was served when we sent in the seals and they got the job done.  There is no necessity of heaping on gratuitous releases of macabre photos and putting us in the same camp as our enemies when it comes to how we behave as a civilized nation.

I had a surreal dream.

It started by witnessing an altruist explaining to his followers why it should be important to ‘them’ to do things for others.
I then saw a marxist trying to convince a crowd that his ideas were better than anyone elses.
Off to the side there was a Democrat, at first I thought he simply had many faces but then I saw he actually had many ‘selves’. While one was distracting a voter telling him how much he cared for the ‘little guy’ like him, another was behind the man picking his pocket and yet another was around a corner counting the days loot and stuffing it in his own pockets.
Just past him down the ally there was a Republican. At first I thought he also had many selves but apparently the other was just his twin. The first was trying to figure out how to turn a donkey into an elephant (or perhaps it was turn an elephant into a donkey but that’s neither here nor there – all I saw was an ass that never forgets). The second was talking to a group of assembled businessmen for a rather large fee trying to explain to them how he would help them to keep more of the money they earn.
Somewhere in the background the entire time was the constant jabbering of a utilitarian describing how people who did nothing of real value were worthless.
Among the crowd there was an environmentalist handing out a huge stack of paper fliers that read ‘save the trees’!
I then spied a nihilist, he was waiting for a reason to act on something – I don’t even think he was sure what or why he would do it.
Right smack in the middle there was a feminist wearing blue jeans and a muscle shirt, with her hair cut short making very aggressive gestures while barking out loud denunciations about the patriarchal (male dominated) nature of society.
Off in another corner was a chaos theorist who was quite perplexed flipping a double headed coin that always seemed to come up heads.

(I may continue on this later)

We’ve all heard the outrage from the current majority in the congress about the bonuses being received by AIG executives. The rally cry is to give it all back. So let’s take a look at one of these groups and examine the facts….

The group to which I refer have managed to get into leadership positions and are obviously taking advantage of those positions for great personal gain. Most of them started out wealthy and are using their authority to leverage lucrative bonuses to further expand their wealth. The average salary is about $160,000 but the average ‘self-worth’ of this group ranges around 18 million dollars and has been steadily increasing.over the last few years. In addition to the benefits these folks receive as a result of their jobs they also utilize their position to leverage other wealth through investments, writing books or doing speaking engagements.
Their retirement plans are the envy of most ‘common’ americans. Yet they still keep asking for more while taking advantage of the organizations they work for and the people who depend on those organizations. And of course it is public funds that are being used to keep their salaries at these rates.

Am I talking about the CEO’s at AIG? No I am not. I am talking about the United States Senate. As long as they are pointing fingers at the ‘evil rich’ it is about time we hold them to their own standards! Demand your senators to give back what they made last year and see how long it takes for them to hang up the phone on you!

I just love how liberals try to paint themselves as ‘compassionate’ while denouncing and ridiculing others in a demeaning fashion in the process of alleging them responsible for same. Mind you I am not a far right conservative either but find the hypocrisy on the left to be the most offensive and dare I say ‘scary’ when combined with the ‘actual’ world result of supporting their agenda. I hear comments like “Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot” coming from Al Franken, or similar comments from any number of other pundits about their favorite conservative demon of the moment.

Well turnabout is fair play, and I was enjoying an episode of south park the other night when I got to thinking about how often Comedy Central likes to spam the ‘Daily Show’ in their program line up and just how much it’s host just repulses me with his pompous idea of funny.

stewart_rectJohn Stewart funny? Jon Stewart is a typical New York liberal. Most of his humor is wound up in far left ideology that doesn’t work in a practical world and is wound in an elitist condescension that is not merely insulting to anyone that might disagree with his world view, but is downright insidious when you try to mask under the banner of satire. But thus is Modus Operandi for the far left, insult anyone you want but then cry fowl whenever you can even insinuate a prejudicial view from anyone who opposes your alleged ‘good intentions’.

So I’d like to go on record with my own gut feeling of the moment as I saw that guy with his mocking smile trying to explain how it is ‘reckless’ to allow taxpayers to keep their own money and ‘responsible’ to give it to liberal politicians and government. Pure and simple…

Jon Stewart is an elitist prick
